grace shinhae jun (Director)

grace (MFA Sarah Lawrence College, BA UCSD) is a choreographer, educator, performer, and spoken word artist.

The inherent need for movement and the love of hip hop culture inspired her to begin bkSOUL, creating a community that shares culture, language, and soul.
Bi-coastally collaborating and co-directing with Olase Freeman (Philadelphia, PA), bkSOUL has been presented by Sushi Performance & Visual Art (San Diego), Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater, CECUT (Tijuana), The Kitchen (NYC), 848 Community Space (SF), Studio 210 (SF), Thelma Hill (Brooklyn), Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Dumbo Art Festival (Brooklyn), Link's Hall (Chicago), and Big Red Dance Company (Seattle).

grace has performed with Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater, tammy l. wong dance company (Singapore), Katherine Ferrier/Ensemble Project (NYC), Monica Bill Barnes (NYC), Sean Curran (NYC), Youth With a Mission (Montana), SHIFT>>>(San Francisco), Victoria Marks (LA), Allyson Green Dance (San Diego) and currently with Gabe Masson Dance.

As an educator, her movement and rhythm are based on a union of hip hop, karate, yoga, gymnastics, contact and postmodern techniques. grace has taught both nationally and internationally but continues to teach at UCSD, Southwestern College, City College, Culture Shock Dance Center and serves on the Artistic Advisory Board for Sushi Performance & Visual Art. peace.
